Cemeteries

Great Baddow Parish Council (the Burial Authority) manages the Lawn Cemetery in Vicarage Lane and maintains part of the Old Burial Ground behind St Mary's Church.

There are no new graves available at the Old Burial Ground, therefore an interment can only take place in a plot that is already owned or reserved.

The Lawn Cemetery is a peaceful location which can be enjoyed in all seasons, offering a place of contemplation and solace, where loved ones can be remembered with quiet reflection and we ask that all visitors respect the feelings of others.  The cemetery is maintained to high standards and there is a continuing review to ensure that these are maintained.  It is expected that all visitors will also contribute to this high level of quality by observing the regulations.

The Lawn Cemetery is open to everyone for burials and cremated remains interments and has a dedicated children’s area.  Plots are purchased* for 50 years (with the option to renew thereafter) and are offered with the exclusive right of burial for that grave.  Each full burial plot can accommodate up to four interments (with a maximum of two full burials).  Each cremated remains plot can hold two sets of ashes.

*Please note that additional fees apply to those who are not residents of Great Baddow or Galleywood.

Plots can also be purchased ‘prior to need’ by residents/those living in the parishes of Great Baddow and Galleywood.  Please contact us if you would like further information.

Headstones can be erected on full burial plots, and we allow flat or wedge shape memorial tablets on cremated remains plots.  In all cases a permit is required, and memorials must be crafted and installed by an authorised stonemason, to ensure they are suitable and safe.

We also offer families the option to have an engraved granite plaque on the memorial at the rear of the Lawn Cemetery, providing a lasting reminder of a loved one which can be engraved with your own wording (subject to space restrictions).  Plaques are purchased through the Parish Council office.

Please note that no dogs (except assistance dogs) should be taken into either of the cemeteries.
