Recreation Ground

The Recreation Ground is home to many sports facilities, children's and teenagers' play areas and a youth shelter. You will also find the Millennium Community Centre here. Click here to visit their website and find out what activities take place there and rooms for hire.

Facilities are available for:

• Football
• Table Tennis Table
• Basketball practice area
• Netball
• Outdoor gym
• Three floodlit all weather sports courts

The Parish Council installed the outdoor gym equipment in the Recreation Ground in summer 2011. This equipment is free for all parishioners to use and we hope plenty of people will enjoy using it to keep fit. The basketball practice area is also freely available to all and no booking is required for either of these facilities.

There is also a Bowls Club and Cricket Club based at the recreation ground. These clubs have been running for many years and are always looking for new faces to join. For further information please click bowls or cricket

There is plenty of free parking for when you visit, along with Bicycle Stands for those who wish to cycle. Picnic benches and ordinary benches can be found around the park, provided for you to relax and enjoy the day.

The Recreation Ground staff can be contacted direct for bookings, tel: 01245 473538.

Essex Playing Field Assocaition Playing Field and Playground Awards 2020

Inspite of the restrictions imposed by Covid in 2020 the Parish Council's Recreation Ground was again presented with a Gold Award in the category for Best Kept Playing Field serving a population of 2,500 or more and a Gold Award in the category of Best Kept Children's Playground. This acknowledges the high standards noted by the EPFA judges when they visitied these facilities. Congratulations to the Grounds Staff who work so hard to look after our Recreation Ground on a daily basis for everyone to enjoy.

Noakes Place

This is the area behind the Community Association building that adjoins the Recreation Ground. It slopes down towards Buckleys and Baddow Road and contains the ponds and the sensory garden installed by the Parish Council. We took over the management of Noakes Place from Chelmsford Borough Council (as it was then) in 2000 and it was maintained by our grounds staff for several years. We are currently in negotiation with Chelmsford City Council to restore this arrangement.

A Tree Trail leaflet is available to help you enjoy a walk through here. Copies are available free of charge from the Parish Council Office, the Community Association or Great Baddow Library. Or click here to download a copy.
